Metal standpipe drains have a useful life of only thirty years or so while PVC siphon systems will last for decades longer. Siphons have no moving parts and provide four to five times more water release during periods of high rains without endangering downstream property. The siphon is placed through the dam at water level and does not change the integrity of the dam and as the intake is below water level, it draws less productive water out of the lake without being exposed to trash collection.
