A frequent problem encountered around lake environments is erosion of stream and lake shorelines. We have had great success in preventing erosion by installing gabion blankets and baskets. The use of gabions is an excellent means of placing rock in a manner that resists erosion as the rocks are kept in place against the bank in a PVC-coated wire basket designed for use in and around water. We have used gabion baskets in spillways, to replace failing retaining walls, to secure horizontal drainpipes and to act as footers under structures adjacent to streams and lakes.
